LIBI’s Library contains all of the resources you need to feel confident learning about your chosen career path

A Wealth of Career Training Resources

All our LIBI libraries support the curriculum and research needs of students, faculty, and staff. Both libraries are managed by librarians professionally trained in the organization and management of information and services. They collaborate with faculty to provide the college with current and innovative information resources. The Libraries publish monthly newsletters to keep users informed of the latest additions to our library collection.

LIBI Collections

The scope of the library collection covers the fields of knowledge, which are of interest to the academic environment. The resources have a comprehensive and in-depth coverage for the disciplines and subject areas that reflect the curricular and research activities. In addition, the Flushing and Commack libraries adhere to the material recommendations suggested by the National Court Reporters Association. Commack Campus offers an extensive selection of court reporting materials including reference materials, books specific to the field of Court Reporting, and practice dictation audio tapes, CD’s and DVD’s from the NCRA as well as other reputable sources. The libraries are members of the Metropolitan New York Library Council-METRO and the Long Island Resource Council-LILRC and are part of their inter-library loan program.

FLUSHING AND MANHATTAN LIBRARIES

The Flushing Main Campus and LIBI NYC Libraries provide print reference resources, general interest books and periodicals, business and technical publications, and relevant trade journals. In addition to the print resources, both campus libraries subscribe to and provide student access to electronic library resources on and off campus. The LIBI Virtual Library resources include e-brary, a 80,000 full-text electronic library; Credo Reference; Homeland Security Digital Library; Newsbank; NOVEL NY databases; and Encyclopedia Britannica.

Both libraries are members of the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) where over 300 libraries share resources. The Commack Campus is a member of the Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) and participates in the Research Loan Program (RLP) giving students access to library resources beyond LIBI.

The librarians produce regular newsletters for students and faculty describing library and Internet resources, recent acquisitions and other relevant information pertaining to the courses of study on campus.

Librarians conducts Information Literacy sessions by going into classes of specifically designated courses and shows the students the available print materials, electronic databases and reliable online resources related to that class. Students are highly encouraged to visit the libraries as early on in their studies as possible.

COMMACK LIBRARY

Students are welcome to browse the Commack Campus Library collection and to take out books, DVDs, or audio and videotapes. New books are received regularly. The library is also a quiet place for study. If there is a book or periodical you would like to see included in our collection, please make a suggestion to the librarian. Books may be signed out for up to two weeks and reference books are available for use in the library. If a book is not returned by the end of the semester, the student’s transcript will not be issued. The Commack Campus Librarian also conducts Information Literacy sessions to show students the available print materials, electronic databases and reliable online resources related to that class.
